Just the 2 of Us
The dirt on Ryan
I'm a geek. Ok, so I'm good at sports and love surfing, but I am a computer geek.
Why would I admit that? Well, I'm secure in my geekishness. I love the work I do and can't seem to get tired of building web sites (to Holly's dismay). I believe I am a very lucky person for 3 reasons:
- I am marrying Holly, the most important person in my life; someone who pushes me to work hard and have fun at the same time
- I have a great family
- I have my dream job
I have lived in San Diego my entire life, and am very lucky to have the family I have. I went to High School in Scripps Ranch, was in the marching band all four years (FURTHER testiment to my geekiness), and played baseball sophomore through senior years (until I broke my wrist in a freak skateboarding accident). I went to the University of California, San Diego where I majored in Biology, but somewhere along the line I took a different road and found that I love the Internet. I have been a web programmer for 2 years now, and I am very passionate about my work. I love the IT field because there is always something to learn.
About a year ago I started Program This! Web Development, coincidentally, with Holly as my Sales & Marketing Director. For now it is only a side project that I use to strengthen my skills and add some dough to the bank.
I've been surfing for about 13 years now and it is my favorite activity. Although I don't have much time to get out in the water during the work week I do so as often as I can.
I would like to thank everyone for visiting our site, and I really hope to see you at the wedding.
The low-down on Holly
Ryan and I have a lot in common. We both have parents that are still together and we both have lived normal, happy middle-class lives. When you meet both sets of parents you will be surprised how similar they are.
I also grew up in San Diego County. I went to San Dieguito High School in Encinitas, graduated in 1994 (you do the math), then I went to UC Santa Barbara where I majored in History of Art and Architecture. I spent four great years in the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, doing the cliché sorority things you see in movies and yes, they are all true.
Somehow in the haze of alcohol and frat parties I managed to graduate in 1998 and I promptly moved to Los Angeles to be a famous screenwriter. Of course, that never happened but I did have some great years working in event planning and marketing; first for Star 98.7 radio, then for NBC. I had the stereotypical LA life for a while. I danced with Matthew McConaughy at a movie premiere party, drank apple martinis with sushi on the Sunset Strip, and had lunch in the commissary with the cast of Days of Our Lives (Jay Leno ate in a private VIP room). Like most LA experiences, it got old fast and I moved back to San Diego to be near my family.
I now live with my brother, Johnny, in La Jolla and manage a legal mediation firm. No, the job isn't very exciting, lawyers are exactly how you think they would be, and there are no celebrities to dance with. But, the money is good and the owner of the company is a wonderful, accomplished woman who appreciates the work I do. I think I'll stay awhile.
In my spare time, I work on my young adult novel I've been writing for two years. It's almost ready to submit to publishers! I am addicted to Tivo, going to Target for no reason, and watching my San Diego Padres play. Ryan is teaching me to appreciate football. We are going to make a lot of great memories just hanging out at sports bars. Go Padres...and Chargers, too, I guess.
